How to Whiten Eyes in Photoshop

Hello guys, today I am going to show you how to whiten eyes in Photoshop. This thing can be easily achieved in a couple of seconds with Lightroom, but in Photoshop, it may take some time. I am also planning to upload a tutorial on whitening of eyes using Lightroom very soon.

For this tutorial, we are going to use some adjustment layers and brush. This is a time taking tutorial and requires some amount of patience. You have to zoom in a lot at a various point of time and manually brush all over the eyes. Let’s begin the tutorial.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find out best image for this tutorial so I had to pick up an image, and I manually made her eyes yellow. I guess that the model and the photographer wouldn’t like this part.

STEP 1

1

The above image would’ve been more appealing if her eyes were brightly white, and that is what we are going to do now; to make her eyes white.

The first thing you need to do is to press D to make black as your foreground color and white as the background color.

2

We are going to convert this image to Black and White. There are five options to convert an image to Black and White in Photoshop and I am going to use the best one. Go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Gradient Map.

Make sure that the gradient is black to white.

3

STEP 2

Press F7 to open the Layer panel. Make sure the white box adjacent to the Gradient Map icon is selected.

4

We are going to fill the rectangular box with black color. As black is our current foreground color, we just need to press Alt+Backspace/Opt+Delete to fill it with black color. Once done, the image will revert back to its colored form.

5

STEP 3

Grab the brush tool from the tool panel or press B. Adjust the size and reduce the hardness to 0%. Now zoom in the image a lot. We are manually going to whiten the eyes.

6

Make white as your foreground color. Manually brush on her eyes slowly.

9

Do it for both eyes. Your image should look like the one shown below.

10

STEP 4

Now we are going to whiten it up little more. Press and hold Ctrl/Cmd and click on the icon of the Gradient Map in the layer panel.

11 This will load a selection.

12

Now go to Layer>New Adjustment Panel>Curves. Change the preset to Lighten.

13

STEP 5

Duplicate the Curves adjustment layer several times by press Ctrl+J/Cmd+J in case you want to whiten it more.

14

And now we have successfully completed this tutorial.
