Create Medieval Age text in Photoshop CS6 | TrickyPhotoshop

STEP 5: WORKING WITH TEXT

The font I used is Plain Germanica. Press T or select the text from the left panel and write the text that you want. If you don’t know how to install fonts in Photoshop then you might be interested in my How to Install Fonts in Photoshop tutorial.

Once you have written the text then press F7 to open the layer panel and click on the add layer style to text layer which you can find at the bottom of the layer panel. Then click on bevel and emboss. Change the settings as shown below.

  • style = emboss
  • technique = smooth
  • depth = 174%
  • direction = up
  • size = 5 pixels
  • soften = 0 pixels
  • angle = 36 degree
  • altitude = 39 degree
  • gloss contour = gaussian
  • highlight mode = linear dodge with 54% with color #c98206
  • shadow mode = multiply with 75% with pure black color

11

Now click on texture. Click on the drop down texture menu. Select rock pattern and choose “black marble”.

12

Set the scale to 97% and depth to +63%.

13

Now select inner shadow. It will add shadow to your image.

  • blend mode = multiply with black color
  • opacity = 75%
  • angle = 36 degree
  • distance = 5 pixels
  • choke = 0 pixels
  • size = 5 pixels

14

Now go to gradient overlay. This will make my right are of the text a bit brighter and left area a bit darker.

  • bland mode = soft light
  • opacity = 77%
  • style = linear
  • angle = 55 degree
  • scale = 95%

15

Now I am going to show you how to change the color of the gradient.First click on the gradient(on the gradient, not on the drop down icon) then click on stops(where 1st arrow ends) and then change the color to pure black. Similarly process for the right stop but change the color to grey. I am going with dark grey with color code #5b5252.

16

Now click on outer glow.

  • blend mode = screen
  • opacity = 75%
  • noise = 0%
  • color = default (#ffffbe)
  • technique = softer
  • spread = 19%
  • size = 4 pixels
  • contour = cove-deep
  • range = 56%
  • jitter = 0%

18

Now finally click on drop shadow

  • bland mode = overlay (color is pure black)
  • opacity = 100%
  • altitude = 36 degree
  • distance = 45 pixels
  • spread = 100%
  • size = 3 pixels
  • contour = rounded steps
  • noise = 0%

19

Finally press OK.
